Product description
A new combined simplex/semiduplex marine VHF/DSC unit (Class D). It consists of a handset control unit with holder and a small remote transceiver. A small but efficient 2 watt loudspeaker is integrated in the handset.
Additional information
The DSCall is a complete VHF unit with fully integrated DSC facility, without extra units to run the DSC function which is common in other systems. This enables you to have full security and participation within the GMDSS system whether it is mandatory or not
The integrated DSC function limits the cost of and the space needed for installation onboard and thus reduces the installation costs as well as the power consumption.
Depending on the system in question only one or two antennas (DSC units) are necessary, and you have a simple, but complete system.
In the DSCall the DSC distress key is placed in the handset holder covered by the mandatory hatch preventing unintentional activation of the distress function.
It should be noted that the units are powered by 12 V DC.
The units are small and the operation is in general very user-friendly reducing the need for 'special' communication knowledge to a minimum.

VHF DSC Functionality - why so important?
The cornerstone-feature of the DSCall is the integrated DSC (digital selcall) facility.
With the DSC function you are automatically connected to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) which from February 1999 is compulsory for all cargo vessels above 300 gross tons, which thus must have at least one VHF with DSC facility onboard. By using the DSC call channel 70 you are sure to reach ships and coast stations within VHF range.
With the DSC function you are secured an automatic 'dial-through' function to a subscriber ashore via a coast station without interference or use of an operator. Just dial the number of the local coast station followed by the ordinary telephone number of the person you wish to reach and you have a safe connection even outside normal mobile coverage. However, not all coast stations have implemented this facility, so please check locally.
An automatic DSC call is much cheaper than a normal operator-assisted VHF call, so costs for communication will be reduced significantly by choosing a DSCall with built-in DSC.

The above-mentioned table provides a complete overview of the features of the systems, however, we kindly ask you to observe the following:

Remote Operation

Up to 7 control units can be connected to the special SPARC-bus. In order not to install to many cables a special splitter box (SB 1000) can be used. External loudspeakers can be connected either directly to the handset holder or to the splitter box.

All functions of the LEISURE VHF and DSCall can be fully remote-controlled from the handsets.

Intercom - a Unique Feature

The VHF system can be used as a unique intercom system if more than one handset/control unit are connected to the system. Clear indications are displayed whether the called unit is available, and incoming intercom calls identify the calling station visually in the display supported by a bell-tone.

Antennas

All VHF’s must have an antenna. If DSC is mandatory 2 antennas must be installed - one for normal VHF operation and one dedicated antenna for DSC watch keeping. For the DSCall one antenna may be enough, as there is no requirement for mandatory surveillance of the CH 70 DSC channel and thus one antenna can be avoided. Please investigate with your local authorities before you decide to install only one antenna.
